To be eligible for the World Car awards, all candidates had to be new or significantly redesigned for 2011, and sold on at least two continents between the beginning of 2010 and May 30, 2011. Judging is done by an international jury panel comprised of 66 automotive journalists from 24 countries around the world.
The Nissan Leaf EV has already won numerous awards and accolades, including the title of European Car of the Year. The vehicles that didn’t make it past the final round of cuts were the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, and Mercedeas-Benz B-Class F-Cell, and the Smart ForTwo Electric Drive.
The winners of the World Car of the Year and World Green Car awards will be announced on April 21 at the 2011 New York Auto Show. Stay tuned.
