Nissan/GE exhibit to provide real demonstrations of how local utility companies, homes and cars will be connected in two-way communication to promote sustainable living. World Congress to open with a keynote address from GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt on April 24; closes with keynote from Nissan Motor Co. COO Toshiyuki Shiga on April 26.
What if you could charge your electric car in under 30 minutes? What if your car could “talk” to your house or directly to the utility to manage electricity and save money? Keeping with the “Get Connected” theme of the SAE 2012 World Congress, Nissan and its strategic partner, GE, will showcase interactive exhibits that demonstrate the integration of electric cars like the Nissan LEAF into the home with the latest Smart Grid technologies.
Other demonstrations will include Nissan’s CHAdeMO-based DC quick charging system and vehicle-to-home, reverse-flow power management with the Nissan LEAF. Nissan’s display will also include the all-new 2013 Altima sedan, which goes on sale this Summer. GE’s display will include its WattStationTM EV charging station; Nucleus Home Energy Manager, which communicates wirelessly with smart devices in the home to monitor household electricity consumption; and Demand Response Management System (DRMS) software, which can be used by utilities to manage electricity loads.
On the heels of the Beijing Motor Show, at which Nissan Motor Company unveiled an all-new global sedan, Nissan North America (NNA) announced that this new model will be the basis for an all-new 2013 Nissan Sentra. In conjunction with the announcement, Nissan released teaser video clips and images of the North American market's uniquely styled 2013 Sentra SR. The all-new Sentra will be unveiled in the United States later this summer and go on sale in the fall.
"Sentra is the third of five all-new core models we'll be introducing in a 15-month product onslaught," said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, NNA. "The all-new Altima goes on sale this summer and will be followed closely by the all-new Pathfinder and Sentra. And when the next two new models launch in 2013, we will have refreshed 75 percent of our volume, rewarding our loyal owners and attracting new customers into Nissan showrooms."
The all-new 2013 Sentra will be launched as the nameplate celebrates its 30th anniversary in the U.S., promising to bring a new level of refinement and innovation to the segment. Nissan will unveil the Sentra and release more details about it this summer

Carlos Ghosn, Nissan Motor Company's chief executive officer, this week unveiled a series of major initiatives in automotive communications technology intended to move Nissan and Infiniti into a leadership position in the connected car content and services market. In announcing the collaboration with technology innovators such as Google®, Pandora® Radio and Intel® at the New York International Auto Show, Ghosn said Nissan was determined to introduce class-leading connected content and services to drivers and passengers around the world in a way that does not distract the driver. "It's clear that consumers expect to be connected wherever they are, and that includes the time spent in their automobiles," said Ghosn. "To meet those needs, Nissan is developing a series of innovative breakthroughs in communication devices that will be safe to use while driving."
“We’re proud to introduce a new era of urban mobility to New York...”
With those simple words, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn joined New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg for the official world debut of the innovative Nissan NV200 “Taxi of Tomorrow” at a special ceremony just prior to the opening of the 2012 New York International Auto Show.
After years of planning, a two-year highly competitive bid selection process, and countless hours of engineering and development, the NV200 Taxi prototype was ready to meet its future drivers and riders. It is now on display at the Nissan booth during the 10-day auto show at Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Center, April 6 to 15.
For those not able to attend the show, Nissan’s Mike Hobson, director, Light Commercial Vehicles and Fleet, invited the media center to film an up-close walk-around of the vehicle and its unprecedented levels of comfort and innovation.
Action star Steven Seagal is taking reality television to a ‘green’ level. Seagal joined the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD)Golden gate Division for a reality show.
The actor, who graduated from the police academy prior to embarking on acting, joined the SFPD to coincide with a landmark move in where all non-uniformed detectives were given Nissan LEAFs to drive. This move came about after SFPD Detective Ralph Blagoyevitch conducted a three-week trial of a Nissan LEAF in late 2011.
Driving the LEAF showed Blagoyevitch that the vehicle had attributes that ideally suited police work. “We spend a lot of our time creeping up on people,” explained Blagoyevitch. “You’ve seen the sort of thing I’m talking about in movies. You know, where an undercover cruiser stealthily glides up an alley to surprise the bad guys. That sort of deal. Anyway, we found that the LEAF is perfect in this role because it makes, like, totally no noise at all.”
Blagoyevitch also said the LEAF was perfect for stakeouts as well. “Sometimes we have to sit in the car for hours eating donuts and doing the crosswords, but we can’t turn the engine off because we sometimes have to slam into gear and go in an instant,” said Blagoyevitch. “The LEAF gets around that by not having an engine, and with all that torque, blasting off from a standstill is awesome, too.”
Apparently, Seagal was skeptical about the zero-emissions vehicle at first, but his apprehension soon diminished after a few days of shooting. “It really is the perfect stealth car,” said Seagal. “We pulled a guy over who we suspected of driving under the influence. I got out of the LEAF and approached the suspect. When I got to his car he just looked at me and said, ‘Man, you look like Steven Seagal and that sounds like an electric car… I must be more wasted than I thought.’ Easiest arrest I ever made.”
The LEAF made such a huge impression on Seagal, that he might even consider buying one even though commentators have called the car wimpy. “Yeah, I’ve heard that,” said Seagal. “So go ahead, call me a wimp. See how that ends for you.”
Seagal’s reality show is filming now through August.

Innovative Nissan NV200 New York City Taxi Also on Public Display at Javits Center
A big week in front of a big audience - that's one way to describe Nissan's major presence in New York City prior to the opening on Friday of the 2012 New York International Auto Show. Heading the slate of announcements is today's world debut of the next-generation of Nissan's totally redesigned 2013 Altima Sedan.
The reveal of the most innovative Nissan Altima ever follows the first public showing of the upcoming Nissan NV200 "Taxi of Tomorrow" at an event last evening hosted by Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn and attended by New York City Major Michael Bloomberg and other city officials. Both vehicles will be on display throughout the run of the show, April 6th through April 15th, at New York City's Jacob Javits Convention Center. In addition, the Nissan Pathfinder Concept, a preview of the next-gen Nissan Pathfinder SUV, makes its New York debut at the show.
Nissan has released a fifth and final video clip offering a look into the future of the all-new 2013 Altima sedan in advance of its world premiere at the New York Auto Show next week. Altima’s focus is on the driver and its new Advanced Drive-AssistTM Display is designed to keep the driver focused on the road. The 2013 Altima is available with advanced features including lane departure warning, rear moving object detection and blind spot warning, all of which operate through use of an innovative single rear camera.
Nissan has released a fourth video clip and image offering a glimpse of the bold design of the all-new 2013 Altima sedan in advance of its world premiere at the New York Auto Show in April. The sculpted bodyside surface communicates forward motion and aerodynamics even when standing still.
